Rock your faces, mix the races, indeed! Home shows rock MY face off!
No joke. Heavy. Duty. Heavy, duty. Rrrrrockandroll! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a home crowd rock harder than last night at Irving Plaza. Our show was put together by the fantastic maniacs over at Afropunk, Rebel Events, and Frank151—like I said, some heavy duty sheaaahht.
The Apes started things off right. Bomani kept it alive. Yo Majesty arrived in full regalia and had me screaming “Fuck that shit!!” as loud as I could. The EG boys and I ROCKED OUR FUCKING FACES OFF, of course! The Noisettes were positively whoa. And half the audience was onstage for the closing hot-fest that was Santo Gold and Spank Rock. People, there was an afro bigger than mine! Now you KNOW that’s gotta be a good time!
We set off for our next six-week tour on Monday. Home has been short-lived but lovely. And we have a new van to call home-on-the-road, so that’s smiles all around. I’m sure Ricc will be breaking out some mind-altering music on the road this time. Our favorites over the last few weeks have been Gordon Lightfoot, Thin Lizzy, Tori Amos, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Sam Prekop, and Jefferson Starship. This time I’ll be insisting on getting my old-time country fix as well…
Speaking of country, if you’re interested in this rock-grrrl’s country-star alter-ego, then check out the recording I did this past June of my other dearly-beloved project Larune at The Echo Sessions—you can download 3 FREE TRACKS, and if you likey, then buy the rest of the session, which includes 5 Larune tracks plus 5 tracks by Finian McKean. Woo hoo!!
