School for Robots: weird, lyrical, and mildly volatile.

School For Robots plays rock music for people. Original, danceable, and full of energy. It’s as simple as that. And we do it all in a neat 4 person package that includes Curtis Killian on guitar & lead vocals, Andy Tamulynas on drums & vocals, Seth Adams on bass guitar & backing vocals, and Mike Broberg on tenor sax.

Our music draws on a wide range of influences, from Frank Zappa and The Kinks to Charles Mingus and The Presidents of the United States of America. Fans even say they hear some of The Who and Queens of the Stone Age in there. Though whatever they’re hearing, people like the results. So do the Boston Herald and Boston Globe, recently featuring School For Robots in “the edge” and the “Sidekick.”

Here’s what Herald reporter Kerry Purcell had to say: “You won’t hear any beeps or boops from these four young guys. Instead, they rock out with ‘60s-ish melodies and vocals reminiscent of The Who, then pile on Hendrix-style guitar riffs.”

Northeast Performer Magazine’s Becky Firesheets also threw in her two cents: “Weird, playful lyricism, silly commentary, and focused musicianship weren’t isolated to just one song about dinosaurs. While the bassist bounced back and forth during a different tune, the saxophonist bobbed his head like a dancing duck and the singer crooned in a high-pitched voice. … To balance out the goof, a few numbers contained more upbeat instrumental passages that seemed heavily influenced by the ‘70s classic rock. Intricate guitar solos pervaded the set, with pentatonic nods to days of old. Once the shy front man warmed up to the crowd, his swaying hips, random leaps, and occasional headbanging only added to the band’s mildly volatile stage presence.”

When School For Robots hits the stage, we hit it hard, putting in the time to promote our shows and make sure the music is tight. But above all else we have fun, and bring the crowd right along with us. Please, enjoy!

The People Have Spoken. School for Robots is...

Last time I saw these guys they were amazing! Their shows are always full of energy, and enthuuuuusiasm. I love it, and I can’t wait to see them perform again!

I said it once and I’ll say it again: School for robots is redefining the definition of music so drastically, that dictionaries everywhere are exploding on impact!!!

One day while driving to work, my CD player broke with School for Robots’ latest album still inside the player. Well, instead of getting it repaired, I’ve sworn off all other music and only listen to them during my commute.

Remember that scene in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, when Bill and Ted travel to the future and they enter that shrine where they are worshipped because of their world-changing music? Yeah, it’s basically like that with these guys.

My wife has stopped feeding our newborn son milk and instead she has him listen to School for Robots once every 2-hours daily. He’s gained 10 pounds in 2 days and is already on a 5th-grade reading level!!!!

Whenever I listen to these guys I get a familiar feeling. It’s the same feeling I get at 2 a.m. when I take my first bite of pizza after a long night at the bars with my buddies. It’s a combination of satisfaction, comfort and salvation. School for Robots Rocks.

I’ve been trying to get these guys to play at my bar mitzvah next Spring for awhile now. Eveyone in my hebrew school passes their iPod’s around with School for Robots blaring out the earbuds. My mom won’t let me get an iPod so everyone makes fun of me. But if they play at my jewish rite of passage, I just know that Sarah Beckowitz will make out with me!

I am a robot. I went to school. School for robots. There I finally felt as if I were in my element. Human schools suck. They discriminate against robots like me. Even though robots like me are very friendly and don’t discriminate against humans. But humans are mean. They kept calling me Shiny and Tomato Can. But after I went to school for robots I founded my own startup and am now a multimillionaire. Humans now work for me and I call them vacuum cleaners. How ironic is that? Speaking of ironic… I forgot to introduce myself. Rupert “Shiny” Ironik, founder of MetallicClothing, Inc., makers of world’s most comfortable metallic clothing. Go ahead, bend your extremities!
